Lizabeth L. Burrell, Of Counsel

Lizabeth L. Burrell is Levy Phillips & Konigsberg's principal appellate lawyer. She was named one of the nation's Best Lawyers in The Best Lawyers in America 2005-2006 and has been listed by Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers since 2001. The 2003 edition praised her "impeccable writing ability." In recognition of these skills, Liz has been tapped many times to write amicus curiae briefs to the United States Supreme Court on a wide range of subjects.

Formerly a partner at Burlingham Underwood LLP (the firm that represented THE TITANIC), Liz became of counsel to LPK in 2002 after twenty-two years of handling domestic and international commercial and maritime matters, a practice she continues in addition to her appellate work.

Liz is the first woman to hold leadership positions in the Maritime Law Association of the United States and is currently serving as its First Vice President, a role which includes advising governmental and international organizations. A respected lecturer, she has addressed many groups including the ABA and the Tulane Admiralty Law Institute. Liz is also the author of many scholarly articles, including a section of MOORE'S FEDERAL PRACTICE, the leading treatise on that subject.

Liz serves on Tulane University Admiralty Law Institute National Advisory Board, the Advisory Committee of the Seamen's Church Institute's Center for Seafarers' Rights, and the Board of Advisors of University of San Francisco Maritime Law Journal. She is also a Titulary Member of the Comité Maritime International, and an associate editor of AMERICAN MARITIME CASES and BENEDICT'S MARITIME BULLETIN.

Liz graduated cum laude from Swarthmore College and holds an M.A. with honors and an M.Phil. with distinction from Columbia University, as well as a J.D. from New York University School of Law. She is admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, as well as all New York State courts.
